Watch the ships climb the mountain, right from your balcony

The Inn at Lock Seven is located in the small town of Thorold, conveniently close to many exciting tourist venues of the Niagara Region. Historians will enjoy a visit to the battlefields of Queenston Heights, Fort George and the home of wartime heroine Laura Secord, while those interested in the fruits of the vine will find a bevy of wineries ready to welcome them for tours and tastings.

The Inn at Lock Seven offers the prime viewing location for shipping traffic on the Welland Canal. Originally constructed in 1829 to link Lake Erie with Lake Ontario and offer ships a safe detour around Niagara Falls, the Welland Canal has a long and colorful history, which can be explored in a number of tours by car, by bicycle, or on foot. The canal features eight locks with seven of the locks located at north end within a few miles of the Inn.

Ships from all over the world are lifted up and over the cliff face of the Niagara Escarpment. The locks are filled and emptied by water flowing downhill from Lake Erie toward Lake Ontario. Many fascinating hours can be spent watching how the gates are opened and shut to control the water flow, allowing vessels from all corners of the world to sail into the middle of the North American continent.

Children will love the splashing good times to be had at Marineland and various local waterparks.

Every visit to Niagara must of course, include a visit to the breathtaking Falls themselves and the tourist delights of Clifton Hill, combined with a view of the beautiful flowers in the Horticultural Museum, the Floral Clock and exciting Butterfly Conservatory. All of these outstanding attractions, and many, many more, are just a short drive from the comforts of the Inn at Lock Seven; our friendly staff will be pleased to provide you with information and directions.

The Inn at Lock Seven offers comfortable accommodations and you begin your Niagara holiday with a complimentary continental breakfast (seasonal) in our Captain's Quarters Breakfast Lounge. The warm gleam of hard wood floors, surrounded by our remarkable collection of model ships and vintage photos of the Welland Canal and the Niagara of yesteryear, makes for a great breakfast conversation.
