Several times a year, my family comes to Canada for rest and relaxation. Forget the excitement of the Falls! We love the Inn at Lock 7! It's the perfect family getaway. Ed and Patty make us feel right at home. No one has ever had anything negative to report from our many stays here. We love to just sit and watch the ships while the kids play in the yard. Last year, I traveled to Canada alone and there was no question in my mind where I would stay for the night. As a single woman traveling, I felt completely safe and comfortable staying at the Inn. I hope to continue to return to Thorold and Lock 7 for many, many years to come!!! Thanks, Ed and Patty!

Our son is a student at Brock University and we enjoy watching him play baseball for the Brock Badgers in the fall. We 'stumbled' across this lovely inn and have stayed there twice. It was clean and the view was fantastic! We will return!

Hi folks: we have visited the inn several times. the top notch host/hostess make you feel at home. the scenery and town of Thorold are unlike any other. If you visit niagara falls and don't stay at the inn you have certainly missed out on a "treat"

The first time we visited the Inn at Lock 7 was sometime in the mid 60's when our children were very small. We have made the trip almost every summer since, and still look forward to it. Now we bring our grandchildren. There is so much to do in the area and the people are great. Patricia and Ed are the perfect hosts.

Relatives stayed at the Inn at Lock Seven and we visited with them - being a lifelong citizen of Thorold I enjoyed watching the ships from the balcony as well and I know they enjoyed their stay. The hotel was well kept and clean and I always recommend to anyone coming to visit.

Dear Patty & Ed, Just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at your hotel this past week from the 15th thru the 19th of June. You have such a lovely place. It was so quiet and peaceful. My parents Wally and Esther Rupley have been staying at your place for years and they always enjoyed themselves so I am so glad that our trip to Canada included staying at your lovely establishment instead of staying in at the falls like I originally wanted to do. We have stayed at many different places while traveling and we have run across a lot of friendly people and now we can add the two of you to that list. Thank you for your kindness and hospitality and we hope to see you again near the end of summer when we bring our two children and 3 grandbabies to Canada for vacation. And if we do not make it back again this year we will definitly be back next year. Again thank you for everything. Yours Truly, Marsha & Joe Heny 8067 Wolsey Court Pasadena MD 21122

My parents have both passed away, but some of my most wonderful memories about them are our vacations to Lock Seven Motel. Mom used to get up every time she heard the ships blow their horns as they passed through the locks and write down the names. I still have those lists and will treasure them forever. Your motel is the ONLY place I would consider staying when taking a vacation to the falls. Everet was always so friendly and it sounds like you have followed in his ways. Always a very clean motel and a wonderful breakfast!!! Hope to visit sometime soon. Nancy

Hi Ed & Patty, Just got back to Houston from a trip up to Cleveland to see my girlfriend. We made a planned trip to your Inn. I knew it would be a great stay (I am in the maritime business and have many ties with Great Lakes shipping), but it exceeded my expectations. My girlfriend Jeanne and I made the short and very convenient trip to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls followed by some stops and select wineries in Niagra-on-the-Lake. The best part thought, was just relaxing on our porch watching the ships lock, with a fine Cuban cigar and an adult beverage of choice!! Only did a 2 night stay and it was far too short. We'll return again, but it'll be longer!! Late was a great time to visit, not too cold and the kids in school (Niagra Falls not crowded). I'd love to be up there for fall colors!! Take care and thanks for your wonderful hospitality (hope you got the silverware back o.k.!!)

Dear Ed & Patty, We wanted to let you know what a wonderful stay we had last week (9/14-9/16) at Lock Seven. We thoroughly made the most of our stay by visiting the Falls, taking a tour/tasting of several wineries, rode the Whirlpool Jet Boat and most importantly observed a number of ships passing through the locks. Your Inn is so special to us, that we wish we could visit all the time. It is so relaxing and so much fun to meet the other people staying at the Inn as everyone has something in common in watching the ships. Take care and all the best to you and your special treasure, The Inn at Lock Seven.

Hi Patty & Ed - Just wanted to drop a note to express how much we enjoyed our stay at your inn. We were only booked for 2 nights but extended it to 4, as we were enjoying ourselves so much. A perfectly comfortable inn (brought back memories of B&B's in Britain), and perfectly located in the middle of the Niagara region, but well away from the "touristy" areas. And the locks were fascinating - it was like a free show every evening! We made the most of our time there - and brought back many bottles of wine to prove it! Thanks again for your warm hospitality - hope to visit again some day soon!

I hope Ed and Patti's advertisements fail completely and that they only get enough guests to fill their rooms each and every day of the season and not one more. As it stands, the Inn At Lock Seven is perfect and perhaps one of the best "discoveries" I have ever made: A perfect combination of the right site, a clean room, and owners whom actually greet you at the door. I cannot say enough about this establishment or the job the owners have done with it. I live in Niagara Falls and know every possible place to stay within 100 miles - quite simply - this is the best!

Bill and I used to visit your Inn yearly around October. I can still remember my husband sitting on the balcony in his winter coat so he wouldn't miss seeing the ships. However, since you've changed the rules allowing pets, we haven't been able to visit. The annual trip to Thorold and the Lock 7 Motel was a highlight of our year. There are so many times I think of your place and wish we could still go there.

Dear Patty and Ed, What a great idea to share our Lock 7 experiences with other guests!! Our family has stayed with the Kuipers at Lock 7 for more than 20 years, and we would never think of staying anywhere else in the Niagara area. When Ed's parents first bought the motel and began to modernize it, we were there, and we have been with you at least twice a year ever since. Whenever we feel tired and in need of restoration your inn is our destination. You are great hosts, your accommodations are comfortable and spacious, and it is like coming home to visit good friends! We have just finished four days of R and R with you, and we'll be back with grandchildren to visit the pumpkin farm in the Fall! Love, Enid and Les Dunmire

What a great weekend! This was our third stay with you and it was very enjoyable, as usual. We felt sorry for Ed having to work so hard to clear the remains of last week's ice and snow from the parking lot, but the four days of beautiful sunny weather helped. We didn't expect to see so much shipping traffic through the locks this early in the year. It was great boat watching and a very comfortable weekend. We'll see you again soon and plan to bring our parents along this summer. Best wishes, Barb and Paul

We stayed with you 10/18-20/2002 for the recent Boatnerd event. This was our first stay an we will definitely be back. We were all surprised by the quality of the rooms and service. Your facility reminded all of us of a New England inn. One of the members of our group is a retired hotel GM. He had nothing but good things to say about his stay. Keep up the good work!!! Hope to be back soon.

Our family has been coming to this motel for over twenty-five years to watch the ships and enjoy the attractions of the Niagra Peninsula. We have experienced several owners over the years, but Ed and Patty have done a lot to modernize the motel, yet have it retain much of its quiet, uncommercialzed charm. You can relax and watch the ships out your window or from your balcony, yet you're just minutes from Niagara Falls and a little over an hour to Toronto. We have enjoyed every minute there and appreciate their hospitality over the years.

We're so glad that you advertised at boatnerd.com otherwise we would have never found you! We travel all over and always look for accommodations that over look the water, but it's very difficult to find anything where a person can watch the ships from their room. We just can't wait to come up next summer! See you next year:)

Hi, I was just going through your Web Site, what a great job you guys have done. At the end of Sept of this year we will be enr to Boston MA. afterwhich we will fly on to England.Being lovers of the lakers we wanted to see the Welland Canal once again. We spent 10 glorious days visiting the Canal last Sept for our 30th Anniversay. We often passed by the Inn and had mentioned "what a super place to stay" so in a few short weeks we will be making our Reservations for a couple of nights. Who could resist a stopover in Thorold, especialy as we will be passing by within a few miles of you. Sincerley, Butch & Val Badder

Our first visit to your inn. We had a marvelous time watching the ships and touring local tourist sites. On our trip back we followed the Niagara Pkwy from Niagara-on-the-Lake to Fort Erie. A beautiful ride. But the highlight of our trip was your inn and the Canal. Watching one of those giant ships slide noiselessly into the lock at 2 am was a thrill. Alright, maybe I thrill easily. But we still had a wonderful time. Regards, Dave & Carol Kuhlke

Nine days at "Inn at Lock 7" in july/august was great. The location was great. The house- keeping crew were great. I enjoyed to be back at Welland Canal after 25 years. Not to many ships passing, but I did`nt expect it. The best photo I got was of the liberty ship "John W Brown". The weather was great, but 29C is hot for a norwegian from latitude 69 N. Anyway the aircondition worked excellent.Thorold was a nice city. Ed: Do you remeber that "Big Jim" became blond ? Ed and Patty thanks again for your warm hospitality. Wanted to right sooner but were overwhelmed when we got back to work. We both loved our stay the first week of July. GREAT WEATHER! GREAT PEOPLE! GREAT LOCATION! We had a great week-end as usual. We could not beleive the number of ships that went through. Had nice neighbors on each side of us. Everyone is always so friendly. We do miss the wonderful breakfasts that your mother used to make. They worked hard and am glad they can now relax and enjoy their retirement. You also do a great job. See you again soon.

From what I have read in the guest book this is the best place to be. Everyone is completely satisfied with the rooms, view, and most of all the wonderful proprietors. I guess this also means that Patty and Ed must have the best housekeeping crew too. I think so.

Ed & Patricia, Thanx for a wonderful weekend at your Inn! There were TONS of ships, and the view from our room was spectacular! For the first time ever on one of our Welland Trips we didn't have to chase the ships - they came to our door! We loved it and can't wait to come back! Use us for a reference if you'd like, we'd give you an A++ rating. Only 3 words to describe the experience: "Awesome...Totally Awesome" ~~~Tom and Terry :-)

Dear keepers of the Inn of our dreams,

We would still be with you as your guests except for the fact that we had to come home to sleep. This is not a complaint. It is a fact. Who needs to sleep when ships pass in the night right outside your window? That was what we'd come for and that's what will bring us back. Thank you so much for being where you are and running your wonderful Inn.
